Wall

Are you ready for the Grand Unveiling!? OK, I’m willing to bet that unless you work here or have visited our offices recently you haven’t been anticipating this at all, but lemmetellya: We here at 7135 Germs have been either working on these or waiting to post them for months. It started as a goofy gift from my brother and his fiancée at our baby shower. They gave us 35 tear-off sheets of paper with bald baby heads printed on them from the good folks at the Wry Baby company. It’s easy. All you have to do is quickly doodle some hair on the baby. So I set it as our next white board project, and it nearly took over the office. We started out light and fun, but it quickly turned into a competition, and as our supplies dwindled we started hoarding sheets, and calling dibs on different ideas. ‘Pirate’ was one that we all called at one point but no one ever actually did. Huh.

The rules were:

  • Everyone has to do at least one.
  • I you start it you finish and post it.
  • Do whatever you want on the paper.
  • You have to name the baby.
  • You must draw a free-hand frame or mounting around for each post.

We finished them shortly after Lyra was born but, dang if I never found a spare ten minutes after that to post these. And now it’s a new year, and I really can’t delay any longer. These heads crack me up and I need the world to see them, or at least the very small slice of the world who reads our blog. Below is an image of all of them all mashed up. White Board: Under the Sea Coloring Game!

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

This week’s episode of White Bored features a fun coloring game. The Canary gang took a trip under the sea and when they came back everyone drew what they saw. Mason drew a pirate ship fighting a scary sea-dragon while a whale watches the action. The pirates were frightened but really she was just trying to be friendly. Emaleigh drew a happy naked man getting a fun ride from the whale’s blow hole. Megan didn’t want to get her new shoes wet so she stayed on the beach and drew the fish she saw walking around her. Newcomer John was still being initiated to the company in his under-sea prison so he drew the angler fish that guard him. Sadly, Carrie didn’t get to draw anything because she was eaten by the angler fish.

White Board: Heat Wave

Hot damn it was hot this week! Damn hot. So damn hot that our good friend Mr. Air Conditioner was murdered by the evil Mr Sun. Fortunately he was old and had lived a full life, but it’s still sad to see him go, especially on such a hot and miserable day. We even had to shut down for a while for fear of keyboards melting to our fingertips.

We’re back to normal today tho. Our new fancy AC is smaller, quieter, and colder, and even came with a nifty remote thermostat to sense the temp in the middle of the room!

White Board: Stinky

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Back in our old office we began collecting white boards. We started out with small personal ones by each desk to jot down notes and to-do lists. Then they kept coming, and they kept getting bigger. We got one to track our calendar, and then another to track our projects, and then we got bigger ones for each of those tasks. So now that we’ve moved into our new space I thought I’d take it to the next level.

There’s a large wall-sized pane of glass behind my desk. It’s just begging to be drawn on. Inspired by Coudal Partner’s bathroom I went to the hardware store to pick up some chalkboard paint. There next to it was dry-erase whiteboard paint. I had no idea this wonderful product existed. I wanted to draw on the walls, but I was a little concerned about how much chalk dust there might be. It was really simple to mix and paint, and after two days of curing I now have a 7′x5′ scribble board.

It’s going to be a place where we can put up doodles, jokes, and dirty caricatures. We’ll also use it for planning and meetings from time-to-time, but I want to always remember to erase that stuff and start doodling again. I’ll post my favorites here, starting with:
