More Than Words: Bringing Audiences Into the Moment with Instagram
How do you share a story? When we have the luxury of page space, we can help readers imagine that they are on our stages, in our galleries and amidst our treasures. We can describe the soft haze of lighting or the contrasts in color, and bring personalities to mind with a witty line or popular reference. How you tell the same story on social media without the benefit of more than 140 characters?
Consider Instagram, the social network most focused on photo and video sharing. Using their smartphone, users can take a picture, apply filters and upload the finished image to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and other platforms. Like Facebook, Instagram allows you to tag people in each photo. Like Twitter, you can include hashtags to find similar images and trending topics.
Are you in the middle of an installation and wishing you could share with your members the dusty yet exhilarating process of bringing your newest exhibit into focus? Instagram. Is there a phenomenal angle backstage where you can watch the audience’s reaction during previews? Instagram. Yes, you can cross-post to your other accounts, but the value of Instagram is sharing a visual chronology of authentic moments captured personally by the people who are the heartbeat of your organization. This isn’t a venue for peddling promos; it’s an opportunity to share your stories by bringing viewers into your space.

- Easy to view: Your profile page is a collage of the images you’ve collected
- Easy to post: No stressing over content — be inspired by the environment around you
