In June, a new “Museum without Walls” will be launched to help give residents and visitors a chance to appreciate Philadelphia’s public art.
Museum without Walls will offer passersby the chance to stop; look, listen and experience public art in a new way, by accessing, through their cell phones, audio segments that reveal the untold histories of 35 outdoor sculptures along the Ben Franklin Parkway and Kelly Drive.
Penny Balkin Bach is executive director of the Fairmount Park Art Association:
“There’s a sculpture called Jesus Breaking Bread. And hat is in front of the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. It’s a beautiful sculpture, figure, of Jesus by the artist Walter Erlebacher.”
Philadelphia has more outdoor sculpture than any other American city.
