PHILADELPHIA – Girls Rock Philly (GRP) will celebrate the release of its second camper band compilation, The Key of G(irl), with an all-ages show featuring camper bands, volunteer bands and DJs. For the second year, GRP took camper bands into a professional recording studio to create a compilation CD at the end of their August camp week. The girls recorded their songs in WXPN’s World Café Performing Studio, with the recording time generously donated by the radio station. The tracks were recorded and mixed by Kimberly Junod.
The camp, which teaches girls how to rock out while building self-esteem through music education, expanded this past summer to serve 80 junior rockers ages 9 to 17. During camp week, GRP provides girls with a chance to unleash their inner rock stars and to learn songwriting, guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, DJ’ing and vocals. The campers form bands, write their own songs, and perform a concert at the end of the week, this year held at the Trocadero.
A non-profit organization presenting Philadelphia’s only rock camp for girls, Girls Rock Philly (GRP) serves girls from the Greater Philadelphia region, including participants from South Philly, Mount Airy, Roxborough, Center City, Delaware County, Montgomery County, the Main Line, and from New Jersey and Delaware.
