PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Rosenbach Museum & Library – noted for its outstanding collection of rare books, manuscripts, furniture and art – announces the appointment of James H. Averill, Jr., Edith W. “Bonnie” Barnes and Linda Wingate to the Rosenbach’s Board of Trustees.
James H. Averill, Jr. has been active member of the Rosenbach Museum & Library for many years. He will be joining the Board of Trustee’s Finance Committee. Mr. Averill earned a Ph.D. in English literature and began his career teaching Ulysses at Princeton. He has read at the Rosenbach’s annual Bloomsday celebration, which celebrates the work of James Joyce, several times. Mr. Averill is the author of Wordsworth and the Poetry of Human Suffering (1980) and the editor of Wordsworth’s Evening Walk (1984). He later transitioned into the field of wealth management, and recently retired as Senior Vice President and Partner of Wellington Management Company, a global investment firm. Since 2003, Mr. Averill has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Free Library Foundation. He and his wife Janet live in Villanova.
Edith W. “Bonnie” Barnes, a passionate supporter of the arts, has served on the boards of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Chester County and Philadelphia affiliates of Planned Parenthood, the Center for Emerging Visual Artists, the Friends’ Board of the Curtis Institute of Music, and others. Ms. Barnes will be joining the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees. A mother of three, Ms. Barnes spent her career working to improve the lives of children, first as a child psychologist and later as director of admissions at the Benchmark School, where she served for fifteen years. For ten years, Ms. Barnes ran Academic Directions, a school and college placement company. She is now retired and lives in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood.
Linda Wingate will be joining the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees. She is the founding principal of Wingate Consulting, a leadership development firm. She advises senior managers in identifying, developing and sustaining talented people who are aligned with the organization’s core values, and can contribute to organizational outcomes. Before founding her firm in 1994, Ms. Wingate spent over thirteen years with CIGNA Corporation, an international insurance and financial services firm where she was head of corporate-wide management development, which included responsibility for overall design and execution of leadership development, career development and human resource development. She received her master’s degree in Organization Development from Temple University and her Bachelors from Fairmont College.
