WHAT: On May 6, Philadelphia’s Rosenbach Museum & Library will hold theRosenbacchanal, the museum’s 22nd Annual Gala at Urban Outfitters’ headquarters at The Navy Yard. Among friends and distinguished guests, the Rosenbach invites attendees to spend an evening enjoying live jazz music, a cocktail hour and wine tasting, an elegant dinner, and a performance by Philadelphia favorite Headlong Dance Theater. All proceeds from the event support the Rosenbach’s innovative exhibitions and programs in addition to the museum’s educational outreach which engages thousands of children in Philadelphia schools each year.
For the first time ever, the Rosenbacchanal is being held off-site at The Navy Yard, one of Philadelphia’s landmark venues. Building 543, a former coppersmith shop, has been transformed into Urban Outfitters creative hub, a space that integrates industrial artifacts with natural elements, such as koi ponds, bamboo plantings, and folk art from the Far East. Complimentary parking will be available, along with trolley service between the Rosenbach Museum & Library (2008-2010 Delancey Place, Philadelphia) and The Navy Yard.
The evening will feature a unique dessert hour as guests enjoy a private performance by the Bessie Award-winning Headlong Dance Theater. Founded by Co-Directors David Brick, Andrew Simonet and Amy Smith, Headlong is a collaborative, contemporary dance company based in Philadelphia. A recipient of one of the Rosenbach Museum & Library’s first Artist-in-Residence program commissions, Headlong created the work Ulysses: Sly Uses of a Book by James Joyce in 1999. Since 1993, Headlong has performed nationally and internationally, creating over forty dances, many of which are known for their witty take on contemporary culture.
