WHAT:  Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill will celebrate the opening of the new exhibition Collaborations That Make A Difference featuring the work of elementary school students from the Anna Lane Lingelbach School, with a special reception on Sunday, June 5 at 2 p.m. The exhibition, on view through June 26, features original artwork created by students in grades 1-5 in Woodmere’s yearlong Museum-in-Residence program at Lingelbach. The exhibition will also highlight a clay mosaic tile project created in collaboration by students and faculty at the University of the Arts and The Philadelphia School in Center City.

Collaborations That Make A Difference is on display in Woodmere’s Helen Millard Children’s Gallery, a permanent exhibition space dedicated to exhibiting artwork by and for young people. All exhibitions in the children’s gallery, which first opened in 1986, are installed in a professional manner, providing both student participants and visitors a one-of-a-kind museum experience.

The Anna Lane Lingelbach School is located in Northwest Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood, bordering Mt. Airy. Woodmere’s Museum-in-Residence program at Lingelbach provides an in-depth, sequential art and museum experience for students. The program includes classroom visits by members of Woodmere’s education department, and visiting artists and musicians, in addition to trips to the museum. Students make art, tour the museum and galleries, study artwork in museum collection, meet professional artists and learn about the artistic process, and more.

The Philadelphia School and the University of the Arts’ mosaic tile project is a collaboration between students and faculty. As part of the Collaborations That Make A Difference exhibition, a selection of mosaic tiles created by 7th and 8th grade Philadelphia School students, which are part of a large mosaic mural that will be installed at the school, will be on display.
